Healthy Mind Psychology

When misunderstanding can stop someone asking for help

Healthy Mind Psychology was already attracting referrals and enquiries. The deeper challenge was what happened next. For people living with pain, fatigue or other physical symptoms, being referred to psychology can easily be misunderstood as: “Are you saying this is all in my head?” That misunderstanding creates a trust problem before therapy has even started. There was another challenge. Much of the practice’s reputation was associated with founder Dr Amber Johnston, while the business itself included a wider team of carefully selected specialists.

We started with discovery rather than production. Through a detailed Brand Voice Guide process, we explored the practice’s philosophy, audience fears, mind-body approach, matching process, team, language and the questions people need answered before feeling comfortable taking the next step. That strategy then informed a flagship film, a series of shorter films and a wider content system.

The aim was not to make psychology sound simpler than it is. It was to explain the complexity in the right order. To help someone recognise themselves, understand why psychology could be relevant and feel that the practice had taken their situation seriously.

Amber later described the process as giving her “a whole sense of strategy”, rather than simply a finished video.

You really went into depth, not just around the problem, but who I am, what the clinic represented, what are the ethos, what are the pillars.

What you were able to come back to me with felt so aligned to what I did, what I think and what I was trying to say. The final video represented what we were trying to achieve and presented me in the way I wanted to come across: personable and knowledgeable, but somebody who would be able to help. What I’m coming away from is a whole sense of strategy, and somebody who I now have trust and faith in can help me achieve these things.
