Exploring Identity Through Prosthetics

Agenda Brown

This short film delves into the creative journey of photographer Agenda Brown as he transitions from his well-known Hands series to a new exploration—capturing the relationship between individuals and their prosthetic limbs. The piece follows Agenda in his studio, where he engages with the nuances of identity, adaptation, and the personal connection people have with their prosthetics.

Through thoughtful interactions and artistic experimentation, the film reveals Agenda’s intent to highlight the individuality and resilience of his subjects. Set against the backdrop of his creative space, the film captures the artistic process as Agenda visually narrates these powerful stories of transformation and adaptation.

The Story Behind the Project

The shoot took place over a single day with a two-person crew—a producer/director and myself as Director of Photography. We used one camera for both the interview and b-roll, capturing an intimate look at Agenda’s creative process. The interview was filmed in the morning, followed by the photography session in the afternoon, which I filmed for b-roll. To maintain the raw, authentic feel of the piece, we used minimal lighting—just one light with a softbox—to create a natural yet refined visual atmosphere.
